Scotland is defined structurally by its tenements and its stone. The Victorian and Edwardian sandstone tenements of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen carry loads very differently from the brick terraces of England, with load-bearing masonry gables, timber floors spanning between them and shared closes and stairs. The granite of Aberdeen and the harled stone of rural and Highland property add their own behaviour, and alongside all this sit post-war housing schemes, modern estates around the central belt and traditional cottages and steadings across the countryside. Alterations to tenements and older stone buildings need to respect how that existing structure was built to carry load before any wall is opened up.
We provide the full structural remit for Scottish projects: Eurocode calculations and drawings for extensions, loft and attic conversions, wall removals and new openings, structural surveys and defect reports, and design for new build and commercial work. Desktop calculations and reports are delivered anywhere in Scotland, and where a survey or inspection is needed we arrange attendance across the country, from the central belt to the Borders, the north east and the Highlands.
