Structural engineers for main contractors
Site does not stop because a design query is open. We aim to answer contractor queries the day they arrive, design the temporary works properly, and discharge designer duties without being chased.
What we cover.
Contractors need a structural engineer who understands that a query on Tuesday is a programme problem by Thursday. We work to that reality: quick answers on site issues, temporary works treated as real engineering, and paperwork that does not hold up a valuation.
- Temporary works design, propping and shoring
- Excavation support and facade retention
- CDM 2015 designer duties and risk registers
- Buildability review and value engineering
- Site query and RFI response
- Contractor-designed portion packages
- Collateral warranties and third-party rights
- Remedial design where site conditions differ from drawings
What main contractors actually involves.
Temporary works are where the highest risks on most sites sit, and where they are most often under-engineered. Propping, formwork, needling, excavation support and facade retention all need designing as controlled systems, with checks, inspections and a clear sequence, not sketched on the back of a drawing. We treat them that way.
The second thing contractors need is speed. Ground conditions differ from the site investigation, an existing structure is not where the survey said it was, a beam will not fit. Those are not design failures, they are normal, and the cost is in how long it takes to resolve them. We aim to respond to site queries within the working day.
We provide collateral warranties and third-party rights as standard where the appointment requires them, and carry £5m professional indemnity cover. If your client or funder specifies a particular level or form of warranty, send it over and we will confirm before appointment rather than at practical completion.
We design temporary works as controlled systems with the checks and inspection regime that go with them, and we turn round the site problems that were never anybody's fault quickly, because that is where the cost sits. Collateral warranties and third-party rights are provided as standard, with five million pounds of professional indemnity cover behind them.
How quickly can you respond to a site query?
We aim to acknowledge site queries the same working day and to tell you straight away how long a resolution will take, so you can plan around it. Where a design change is needed the time depends on what has to be rechecked, and we will give you a realistic date rather than an optimistic one. Tell us at appointment that a project is programme-critical and we will treat its queries accordingly.
- Same working day target on site queries
- Designs checked and signed by a Chartered Structural Engineer
- Temporary works as a controlled engineering system
- Collateral warranties provided as standard
- £5m professional indemnity cover

Common questions
Do you provide collateral warranties?
Yes, as standard where the appointment requires them. Send the form your client or funder uses and we will review it before appointment.
Can you take on temporary works design only?
Yes. We are regularly appointed for temporary works where another engineer holds the permanent works design.
What level of PI cover do you carry?
£5m professional indemnity. If a project requires a higher level for a specific appointment, tell us at tender stage and we will confirm what is possible.
Can you attend site?
Yes, UK-wide. For inspections, temporary works checks and resolving conditions that differ from the drawings.
