Accessibility Statement
How accessible this website is, what we have done about it, and how to tell us when we have got it wrong.
Our commitment
We want this site to be usable by as many people as possible, including people using a screen reader, navigating by keyboard alone, using speech recognition, or viewing the site at high zoom.
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA.
What we have done
Every page is built as structured HTML with a single h1 and a heading order that does not skip levels, so a screen reader can navigate the document rather than guess at it.
Body text is checked against its own background for contrast, including where translucent text sits over a photograph or a colour panel, and meets the AA contrast ratio.
All movement on the site is transform and opacity only, and is disabled entirely for anyone whose system requests reduced motion.
Images carry alternative text describing the structure shown. Decorative images and colour panels are marked so assistive technology skips them.
The site is usable at 390 pixels wide with no horizontal scrolling, and content reflows rather than being cut off.
Known limitations
Redacted drawings. The structural drawings shown on some pages are vector line work and cannot be read by a screen reader. Each carries a caption describing what it shows, and the engineering is always described in the surrounding text, so no information exists only in a drawing.
Testing. This site has been checked programmatically for heading structure, contrast, reflow and motion preferences. It has not yet been tested by a person who uses a screen reader daily, and we would rather say so than imply a level of assurance we do not have.
