The North East takes in Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Northumberland and the Tees Valley. Its building stock includes the distinctive Tyneside flats and Victorian and Edwardian terraces of Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Shields, the former pit-village and colliery housing of the Durham and Northumberland coalfield, stone farmhouses across rural Northumberland, and the industrial and post-war housing of Middlesbrough, Stockton and Darlington. Extensions, lofts, conversions and wall removals dominate the domestic workload, with Tyneside flats raising their own shared-structure questions. Because a Tyneside flat shares floors and walls with the home above or below, any opening has to consider the whole building, not just one dwelling.
We provide the full structural remit for North East projects: Eurocode calculations and drawings for extensions, loft conversions, wall removals and new openings, structural surveys and defect reports, and design for new build, developer and commercial work. Desktop calculations and reports are delivered anywhere in the region, and where a survey or inspection is needed we arrange attendance across the North East, from Tyneside to Teesside and the rural north.
